Terrace House,

North Melbourne, Victoria

Year: 2025

Status : Design Development

  • A carefully resolved renovation of a narrow inner-city terrace, shaped by light, clarity, and a strong connection to outdoor space.

The existing terrace was long and enclosed, with limited natural light and a disconnected relationship to the outdoors.

The clients wanted a home that felt calm and open, while still respecting the character of the original building.

Our approach focused on creating a clear and legible plan organised around light. A central courtyard was introduced as a key spatial device, allowing daylight to be borrowed deep into the home and establishing a direct connection to the outdoors.

The intervention is intentionally measured—retaining the front of the house while introducing a contemporary rear addition that sits in quiet contrast.

A restrained material palette supports a calm, cohesive environment, allowing light and space to define the experience of the home.

The house now feels open, शांत and intuitively organised. Natural light plays a central role throughout the day, while the courtyard becomes a focal point for living.

The project demonstrates how a carefully considered, minimal intervention can transform the experience of a constrained site.
